Sex can be an important part of intimacy in relationships, and consent is a crucial aspect of sexual interactions. Whether we are in long-term relationships, single and casually dating, or involved in monogamous or non-monogamous situations, consent must always be emphasized.
Even in long-term relationships, discussing consent can be challenging. Therefore, it’s vital to move beyond the traditional "no means no" framework to an "enthusiastic yes" approach, which fosters clear, mutual agreement and respect.
In this discussion, we will explore how to practice informed consent while considering diverse cultural perspectives. Understanding how cultural norms, values, and beliefs influence discussions about consent will ensure that it is respected and understood across various backgrounds and relationships.
Objectives:
Attendees will identify at least three challenges in shifting from "no means no" to "enthusiastic yes" when discussing consent in clinical settings.
Attendees will describe at least three strategies for guiding clients in having open and informed consent conversations, including recognizing verbal and non-verbal cues.
Attendees will identify and explore at least three approaches to helping clients establish and respect mutual boundaries in relationships to promote healthy, consensual interactions.

As supervisors we are not only responsible for meeting board requirements but are often tasked with helping associates to identify who they are as healers and who they want to be. What we as supervisors choose to attune to, how we foster growth, who we include in conversation, and the means in which we engage with healers in training is directly interconnected with the type of healing our community has access to.
When "Western" psychology’s dominating definition of health is forced onto people of diverse cultures, it can cause further stigmatization, shame, and division among families and communities. We must ask ourselves; how does this same system cause chronic disconnection when working with the next generation of healers?
To interrupt the cycle of pain we see in our communities we will explore how to shift supervision from top-down to bottom-up process and guide our supervises as they engage in ethical healing practices rooted in ancestral wisdom.
To do this in a decolonial way we will be inviting fully licensed, provisionally licensed and supervisor level clinicians to attend alongside each other as we work collaboratively to shift from power-hoarding to power sharing. This requires providers to be willing to unlearn and heal to collaborate in anti-oppressive, non-exploitive ways with each other.
We will explore a shift from strictly valuing evidence-based practice to ancestral wisdom of incorporating practice-based evidence in our supervision process. Participants will actively work through the session to Decolonize power, knowledge, and relationships. A process that we must commit to as ethical mental health professionals who are guiding our future healers.
Attendees will walk away with practical tools and techniques that they can immediately apply in supervision practice, all while contributing to a more equitable and responsive supervisory framework!
1. Attendees will identify at least three systemic barriers in the supervision process that limit a supervisor’s ability to guide future clinicians.
2. Attendees will be able to describe three features of a bottom-up process to help clinicians-in-training build insight into their own pain brought on by institutionalized oppression and how that affects treatment in the community
3. Attendees will identify and explore at least three different anti-oppressive power sharing approaches in supervision.
4. Attendees with can grow in supervisory alliance and ask questions to current supervisory level students in order to access their wisdom to improve supervisory skills and critically reflective skills.

Embracing the Body: A Gestalt Play Therapy Approach to Body Image Culture
Trainer: Toni Davis, LPC-S, RPT-S™
As clients navigate the world, their bodies experience judgment from the surrounding cultural standards. Using a Gestalt Play Therapy approach to these experiences, clients can learn through play the needs of their bodies to move towards change.
The perceived standards of “acceptable” bodies in culture, including differences in size, abilities, skin tones, and gender, create an impact on client’s mental health beginning at a young age. The aim of this workshop is to create an awareness of these cultural differences within the playroom, analyzing how these differences mold the clients experience of the world and their needs for self. As the workshop will utilize a Gestalt Play Therapy to approach these topics with clients, participants will engage in experiential ways to support clients to understand and nurture their bodies to move towards change for the clients.
This training will be held virtually.
Objectives:
1. Identify the concepts of diversity found in cultural views of the body
2. Explain the principles of Gestalt Play Therapy as it interacts with body differences

Doctors Corner: Psychotropics 101
Trainers: Board Certified Psychiatrist Dr. Pablo Gonzalez MD & Mauricio Verduzco LPC
Please note that this training will be held virtually. A link to join will be emailed to you ahead of the event.
With 1 in 5 Americans currently taking mental health medications, psychotropics continue to be among the most commonly prescribed medications in clinical practice. Many of these clients will likely also be engaged in therapy, and may often direct their questions about their psychotropics to their therapist. Having a basic understanding of psychotropics will better equip the therapist to be able to answer these questions and know when to direct patients back to their psychiatric prescriber.
This training is an introduction into psychotropic medications -- antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, mood stabilizers, and stimulants. We will review the medications in each of these classes of psychotropics, the disorders they are used to treat, the mechanism of action, and the common side effects. This training is intended for psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and social workers who want to increase their knowledge of psychotropic medications -- to better address client concerns about medications and to improve collaboration with psychiatric prescribers.
Objectives:
1) Identify commonly used psychotropic medications
2) Identify which disorders can be treated with these psychotropic medications
3) Describe the common risks and benefits associated with psychotropics
4) Understand the mechanism of actions for each class of psychotropics
Talking to Parents About the Sexual Health and Wellbeing of Their Children
Join us for a virtual free CE training session on how we as counselors can better engage with our clients regarding the sexual health and wellness of their children.
During our time together, we will touch on several topics related to sexual health and what is considered “within normal limits” during different developmental stages.

The goal of this training is to provide counselors with the information and skills necessary to discuss these difficult subjects with the families or parents they work with.
This training will be led by Mauricio Verduzco, an LPC licensed in the state of Texas and a member of the SHW Alliance. Additionally, Mauricio was the point person for a multi organization effort to provide resources to families of students at risk for teen pregnancy in a Travis County high school.
